Haishan Hostel (Grade 3 historic site)

During the Ch’ing Dynasty, the empire would send out troops to safeguard Taiwan. Soldiers were deployed to the island and stationed there for three years per shift. The soldiers built temples and assembly halls at Anping for worship and gathering purposes and named the sites after indigenous groups. Originally, Anping had five military assembly halls, but only Haishan Hall survived to present day. The structure was acquired by Tainan city government in 1975, and converted into Anping Heritage & Culture Museum in 1985. The museum houses a rich variety of folk and cultural articles, including items with the Sword Lion totem – the totem which represents Anping.
