Cheng Huang Temple

"Cheng Huang Ye", or the City God, is a deity from local folk beliefs. It may have originated from the concept that man should worship mother nature out of awe and respect. "Cheng" means city and "Huang" is the moat. Anping used to be an important naval station in Taiwan; and in 1747, naval officer Yao Shen-ting ordered the construction of this temple, which is also known as The Town’s Cheng Huang Temple.
Special features: Niutou, the general with an ox head, and Mamian, the horse-faced general, are painted on the temple doors. This is a feature that other Cheng Huang temples do not have.
