Wenzhu Temple

Wenzhu Temple was built in 1798, with Guardian Protector Lord Li Jing worshiped as the main god. Legend has it that during the Japanese Occupation Period, a group of Taiwanese soldiers who were recruited by the Japanese and stationed overseas claimed that Guardian Protector Lord Li Jing and Mazu helped them navigate their way while at sea and led them home safely when returning from the battlefield. The temple is also the place of worship for other deities including Mazu, The Five Lords, and Five Local Guardians, etc. which were all moved here from Haishan Hall.
Special features: the paintings on Wenzhu Temple’s doors are the brilliant works of folk arts master Mr. Pan Li-shui. He painted the “Thirty-six Divine Generals (also known as the Thirty-six Gods of the Big Dipper)” on the doors. Each general have a different facial expression, mount and look. The white clouds in the background bring out a solemn atmosphere. It is a masterpiece worth visiting!
