Tainan City Government Delegation attends International Conference on Climate Change Also visited Member of German Bundestag, Bremen State Parliament member and wpd renewable energy company

 

Hsien-Wei Lee, Deputy Secretary General of Tainan City Government, led a delegation to take part in the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held from November 6 to 17, 2017 in Bonn, Germany. The delegation attended the Climate Summit of Local and Regional Leaders organized by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability. In this meeting, participating country and city representatives shared their experiences and discussed climate change and mitigation policies. The event aims to encourage more international participation and cooperation, and by taking part in this summit, Tainan City can further promote city diplomacy in the area of climate change in the future.

In addition to attending the climate summit, Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Lee visited Johann Saathoff, Member of the German Bundestag, and Jens Eckhoff, member of Bremen State Parliament, and talked about the role that central and local governments play in the process of energy transformation in Germany. The delegation was also invited to visit wpd, a renewable energy company in Bremen which is the largest development group invested in Taiwan’s renewable energy sector. The parties exchanged opinions on the planning, investment and construction of wind power plants and solar photovoltaic power plants. During the period of the conference, Tainan City government delegation also shared the city's solar photovoltaic experience and results at the Foundation of Taiwan Industry Service booth. The sharing event was well-received by participants.

Deputy Secretary General Lee expressed that Tainan City will continue to work with other ICLEI member cities on current policies and challenges, and make Tainan City not only a resilient city, but also a city that can lead other partner cities toward the goal of establishing a sustainable and low-carbon city.
