【Brief Introduction】
The temple worships the Mysterious Supreme Emperor of Heaven, Syuantian Shangdi, who is also called the Northern Emperor, the Northern Yousheng Jhenjyun, Kaitian Dadi, Yuanwu Shen. He is commonly known as Shangdi Gong, Shangdi Ye, or Diye Gong. The color of the temple is mainly black, with its black columns as its unique feature.
【History】
It is said that this temple, built in the Jheng era, was the oldest temple worshipping the Mysterious Supreme Emperor of Heaven in Taiwan. It is located on Hawk Hill, the most elevated terrain in Tainan. The Mysterious Supreme Emperor of Heaven was the most important god of worship in the Jheng era in Taiwan. Both the temple construction as well as the divine figures in the temple are very special. It was originally a first-aid station during the Dutch Colonization. It was occupied by Jheng Cheng-gong and used as a medical station in 1661. When the Dutch retreated from Taiwan, Jheng made it a temple called Dashangdi Temple worshipping the Mysterious Supreme Emperor of Heaven. -- Source: Beiji Temple’s Official Website

Main God of Worship: Mysterious Supreme Emperor of Heaven Religion:Taoism The most ancient tablet of the city is preserved here. It is inscribed, in 1689, with the phrase "Brightness of the Mighty Spirits." Another tablet is the “Surrounded by Stars" tablet from Chen Bin of Taiwan and Xiamen Dao in 1713. Several carved stone columns and inscriptions on the walls are cultural relics of immense value.
