Anding District Library’s 2017 International Day of Families Event a Success

The first event for the Anding District Library’s Happy Families and the Joyous Fragrance of Books Event Series took place on May 21. 20 families from the district attended this extravaganza, which was emanating with a warm and caring environment.

The event featured a Happy Family Educational Book Exhibition, a Facebook check-in activity named “Fall in Love with Anding Library”, presentations from the winners of the Happiness Manifesto contest, family handprints, and interactive games for parents and their children. This event’s activities increased the amount that these family members shared, communicated, and interacted with one another, thus bringing them all a little bit closer.

The event kicked off by having Anding District Chief Liu Shih-Hsiung present awards to the top six vote receivers in the Happiness Manifesto online poll. These six people read their own Happiness Manifestos in addition to giving thank you speeches. The award recipients all expressed that reading was a key factor for happiness and that when children and their parents, as well as other family members, read together the family’s bonds become closer.

District Chief Liu said that research reports show that people who read are happier and more joyful than those who do not, and he surmises that this is because the world of books is full of new knowledge and different perspectives. Liu also explained that reading can cultivate us so that we look at people and everything else in this world from a diversity of angles, and it stimulates us in ways that cause us to contemplate issues and engage in introspection as well. Because of this, Liu believes that it is only natural that reading makes us feel content and happy. Therefore, he hopes that the Happy Families and the Joyous Fragrance of Books Event Series will help make reading and raising children a part of all of our lives. Liu encourages the public to read excellent family education books so that the entire family can learn and grow together, resulting in the fragrance of books creating a happy family environment.
