December is a month of hope. To encourage disadvantaged schoolchildren who are eager to learn, Anding District Office, Tainan City, the volunteer assistance of Molt Beauty and Health Center, and Unik World IND. CO., LTD are joining forces with local schools and officials for Nanxing Elementary School in this district today (Dec. 23) to fulfill the dreams of the rope-skipping team, which has won several awards in competitions, as well as four disadvantaged schoolchildren who have achieved their academic goals. This is aimed at allowing children to experience the joy of dreams-come-true, and also to learn the life experience that “as you sow, so shall you reap.”
Liu, a fourth grader, comes from a low-income family. Liu’s parents are laborers, coming home after work with a backache every day. Seeing this, he wants to give his parents a massage to relieve their pain, but being a child, he does not have enough strength. His goodwill has been fully expressed, but it doesn’t help the situation much. Therefore, with a school teacher’s guidance, Liu participates in the individual financial aid dream fulfilling project held by Anding District Office, Tainan City, to set goals for himself that he will progress in his studies to reach the top ten in his class, become a helper to the teacher and a tutor to his classmates, and help with housework at home. After achieving these goals, he will win a massage machine as a reward. After working hard for one semester, Liu finally made it. Holding the massage machine he won with great effort, he shows the joy of helping his parents relax and goes to class full of happiness. This year, there are three other children like Liu who made their dreams come true. They were granted with a full physical checkup for his/her mother, a large LCD TV to watch alongside the family, and a scholarship to take his/her mother to go on a trip, respectively.
With the principal’s support, teachers’ instruction, and students’ hard work, the rope-skipping team of Nanxing Elementary School has won a lot of awards. However, the children’s frequent practice causes them to go through a lot of ropes. It is not easy to apply for funds, so the rope-skipping team has to practice with a limited budget and hopes that the dream fulfilling project will help them gain additional funds to buy ropes. So the team enrolled in the group dream fulfilling project by setting the goals of attaining the top three in the 2015 Tainan City Folk Sports Super Star Tournament, in the Tainan City Sports Event, and in the Ministry of Education Folk Sports Competition. After all the members’ hard work, they achieved the goal on December 9 and were awarded NT20,000.
According to district head Zhu Dong, to participate in the dream fulfilling project of the district office, the schoolchildren, classes, or teams should first set study or life goals (such as class rank, progress with grades, studying, helping with housework, volunteering services, etc.) and achieve them so that they will meet the requirements. It is different from ordinary dream fulfilling projects, which simply help realize dreams without dreamers expending any effort. In this way, the children will understand the meaning of no pain, no gain and be encouraged to study harder, put filial piety into practice, and work their way up. On the other hand, through sponsorship, corporations can show their love by offering financial aid. This will establish a great model that arouses the public’s concern toward creating a warm and harmonious society.
