Getting Back to Normal After the Storm: Anding Charity Organization Showcases the Power of Charitable Restoration

This year Typhoon Nesat and Typhoon Haitang hit Taiwan one after the other, bringing strong winds and heavy rains with them that didn’t cause serious disaster-level destruction in Anding District except for a few scattered areas of damage. Once the typhoons had moved on far away from the island, (Tainan City) Anding District Office’s Anding Charity Organization immediately went to see if homes team members had previously renovated had been damaged in the places they’d already fixed. The organization discovered one of these homes in Nanan Village had had half of its kitchen roof blown off by the gales. After an on-site inspection was carried out, the organization’s volunteers went to the Wang family’s house on August 15 (2017), at 8:00 in the morning in order to begin renovation work. The house is now just as it was before the storm, allowing the family to once again enjoy proper living conditions and safe shelter.

Anding District Chief Liu Shih-Hsiung explained that the vicious arrival of two successive typhoons (Typhoon Nesat and Typhoon Haitang) in just a short amount of time had dropped nearly 300mm of rainfall in Anding District, causing flooding in many areas of the district. Fortunately, in the last few years Tainan City Government has improved its policy guidelines for water control, and the results were readily apparent, as flooding conditions subsided quickly. The district office responded right away by cleaning up scattered issues, like fallen trees blocking roads, so that the local area would be returned to normal. As for problems concerning residents’ damaged homes, Anding Charity Organization was deployed back into action. The organization immediately began inspecting the damage done to homes that had been renovated by its team members in the past, and it provided assistance as soon as it was able to, showcasing the power of its altruistic renovation work.

In addition to being proactive about finding houses in disrepair that are the homes of the district’s disadvantaged families, Anding Charity Organization has also dedicated itself to the following methodology: inspect and then guarantee, restore houses according to the best available options, and provide a wide variety of renovation services. The organization’s only desire is to help disadvantaged families feel the power of compassionate renovation whenever they’re in need, as it still seeks to fulfill its original aspiration of providing people-first service.
