Running for Health: Ready, Set, Go!

On March 18, Tainan City’s Anding District held the 2017 Anding Runs for Health Race, which began at 8am at Anding Junior High School. Runners that registered to take place in this year’s event included young students and working adults from Anding in addition to people from outside the community, who were clearly excited to participate in this event as well. Anding District Chief Liu Shih-Hsiung officially got the race going by firing the starting shot.   

 District Chief Liu explained that Anding District Office has partnered up with Anding Junior High School to put on this road race, which takes place every spring. The district office uses this event as a means to encourage all its citizens to value recreation and exercise, and the primary goal of this race that has been held for years is to create a special bonding moment for children and their parents. Furthermore, it also allows district residents to be able to participate in an event held in their hometown district, helping Anding District be a happy community that lives up to its Chinese name of being a calm and peaceful place.   

  The distance for the open division was extended to 13 kilometers for this year’s race, while runners in the elementary and middle school division faced a 7-kilometer run. In addition to having a host of teachers and students from Anding Junior High School, many elementary-aged students joined this popular race and around 300 runners participated in the open division. You Ming-wei led from start to finish, taking home first place this year in the men’s open division by achieving a time of 51:14. As for the results of the other divisions, Wang Guo-sheng won the Anding District men’s division with a time of 56:19, and Liu Wan-shu won first place in the Anding District women’s division with a time of 1:19:49. Zhou Ling-jun earned the distinction of being a repeat champion at this event by winning the women’s open division with a time of 1:02:00.
