Tainan City Government’s Agriculture Bureau Sends Compassion in the Form of Tilapia: Anding District Office Delivers Fish to Low Income and Lower-Middle Income Households and Community Social Care Centers

Anding District Office was contacted by Tainan City Government’s Bureau of Social Affairs in regards to a survey named “Agriculture Bureau Distributes Taiwan Tilapia for the Public Good”, which sought to understand each area’s needs. Seeking to help disadvantaged families reduce their spending on necessity goods and provide the district’s social care centers with food supplies, this food distribution effort focused mostly on low income and lower-middle income households as well as the district’s social care centers. The district office applied for 86 boxes (860kg) of Taiwan Tilapia (which already had their scales and guts removed, been inspected, and put in frozen food packaging). The district’s Cleaning Unit assisted by dispatching vehicles, and the district office’s substitute civilian servicemen showcased the spirit of public service by helping move the food. On August 7, the young men went to Madou District Office to load up the fish, and then they returned to Anding in order to distribute the food at the district’s Senior Cultural and Entertainment Activity Center from 11:30am-1:00pm.

Before these food resources were sent, the district took into consideration that households that picked up fish would need to have a fairly large freezer in order to store the frozen tilapia for a longer period of time. Therefore, village officers first made inquiries concerning how much interest there was for the fish, and then they used this information to confirm how much they would apply for, ensuring that the good intentions of this public welfare effort would be reciprocated by high efficiency and efficacy. In addition to giving residents tilapia, the helpers also took the time to explain to the recipients that if they didn’t cook the fish right away then they should put it in a freezer as soon as possible, as freezing the fish prevents it from rotting. The fish that was distributed is known as Taiwan Tilapia, a farmed fish species that has been improved over time with cultivation methods. It can be cooked in a variety of different ways, as it can be boiled, sautéd, stir fried, or deep fried. The fish can be processed to be boneless, so it’s easy to eat for both elderly and young children. It also meets modern day health food requirements and has no ill effects on one’s health, making it the perfect delicacy for the proletariat.
