Anding District Office Holds Winter Break Program for Disadvantaged Children: Young Men in the Alternative Military Service Show Their Big Hearts

Anding District Office worked with the Ministry of the Interior’s National Conscription Agency in holding an after-school program where substitute civilian servicemen took care of underprivileged school-aged children during the winter break. The five-day event went from January 25-29 and was held at Anding Village Senior Cultural And Entertainment Activity Center.
Participating in the event were five substitute civilian servicemen and 17 elementary school students. The children primarily had at least one of the following characteristics: low-middle or low income household, aborigine, single parent family, child of foreign spouse(s), child raised by grandparent(s), and child from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The event’s classes included brain games, artistic talent instruction, t-ball, and schoolwork tutoring. The organizers hope that during their winter break that the children had an enjoyable experience full of a variety of fun activities.
Director of Anding District Chu Tung hopes that the program made the district’s disadvantaged students able to enjoy their winter vacations, and that through this event the district office’s substitute civilian servicemen will understand the power of sacrificing for others as well as cultivate their dedication to community service.
