Kaihua Village

Features
The name Kaihua (Kaihua means development) is derived from the title of the area used by the Jheng Dynasty of Taiwan. In addition to Jhongying (which was used as the other name), the ancient name of Kaihua was employed to give rise to Kaihua Village. Jhongying Elementary School is also located here. The village also includes an old hamlet named Maozaiding. Maozaiding is located northwest of Maogangwei. Wu An Temple is the hamlet temple and serves as the seat of Wu An Zunwang (Honored Prince of Wu An) who was called Dashigong (The Grand Ambassador) by the local villagers. Hence, Wu An Temple was also known as Dashigong's Temple. A public shrine was built in 1965, with the door guardians painted by Master Pan Yue-syong, a renowned artist of Tainan City. Interior paintings and decor were the works of Master Li Han-cing of Syuejia, a winner of the Cultural Heritage Arts Award. There's a Jhongying Cishan Hall southwest of this area that serves as the seat for the Goddess of Yaochi (Queen Mother of the West). This is one of the larger branch temples in this area from the Hualien Cishan Hall Association in Zengwun District. Youwuwei was one of the military battalions of the Jheng Dynasty. The battalion was also known as Siawuwei or Weiwuwei, and was garrisoned at the north of the river between Xiaying and Jhongying. During the Japanese occupation, the area was often stricken by floods. The villagers thus migrated southwards and settled themselves at the western corner of Jhongying at modern Maozaiding. The entire village was renamed Kaihua Village after World War II ended.
