Hejian Village

Features

Hejian Village is a settlement northeastern of Xiaying District. Its area of jurisdiction includes Siaciaotouzai, Jhouzai, Huoshaojhu, and Madouliao hamlets.
1. Siaciaotouzai: It is a hamlet located south of Jhouzai and opposite to Ciaonanzai of Maogang Village at the south with the Ciaotouzai Port (upstream of Jiangjyun River) separating the two. This hamlet earned its name of Siaciaotouzai for being next to Ciaotouzai Port and south of Tiesianciao, people have also called it Siaciaotouzai. This is the founding place of Xiaying's famous tea-smoked goose.
2. Jhouzai: It is a hamlet north of Siaciaotouzai. Sha River used to run through this area. The first settlers built their house upon the delta, thus giving rise to the name Jhouzai (the settlement on the delta).
3. Huoshaojhu: A hamlet located to the west of Madouliao. It was originally named Huojhaojhu (Fire-Illuminated Pearl), but as time went past, the alternative name of Huoshaojhu (Fire-burnt Pearl) became more prevalent and was therefore adopted as its formal name.
4. Madouliao: It is a hamlet north of Jhouzai. Guo Liang-jhih, a native of Liaosi She, Shimeibao, Jinhu Village, Erjioudu, Longsi County, Jhangjhou Township, Fujian Province of China, is a resident of this place. For three generations, the Guo Clan planted sesame seeds and beans, giving rise to the name Madouliao (Sesame and Bean hamlet). In response to the administrative reforms after World War II, the hamlet built by the first generation settler Guo He was renamed Hejian Village (the Village Built by He). Hejian Elementary School was established within this village.
