Maogang Village

Features
Maogang Village is on the southeastern side of Xiaying District. Its jurisdiction includes the hamlets of Maogangwei, Ciaonanzai, and Wayaozai.

1. Maogangwei scenic areas and destinations include Wuyuan Summer Trail, Yingpan Fire Beacons, Jhusi Temple Sights, Anjie Night Market, Dongguo Trails, and Sichou Harvests. The Tianhou Temple at Maogangwei hamlet was completed in 1975. The Temple housed the Shenjhao Haibiao plaque penned by Emperor Cianlong himself. In the summer of 1960s, Maogangwei Bridge Building Stele, dated back to the 57th year of Emperor Kangsi’s rule, was unearthed at Mr. Liou Fu-chao's field. The stele was placed in a warehouse at the back of the temple. The Guanyin Temple was originally named Guanyin Ting Ciguang Si (Bodhisattva's Pavilion and Temple of Merciful Light), and was first constructed in the 46th year of Emperor Kangsi’s rule (1707). The Merits Stele, made in the 55th Year of Emperor Cianlong (1790) was placed outside the temple walls. This Stele recorded the offering of one Jia (close to one hectare) of farmland made by Marshal Liang Chao-guei of the Fujian Army to help pay for the construction of the Temple.
2. Wayaozai: It is a hamlet northeast of Maogangwei. This hamlet earned its name with its 2 tile kilns (wayao).
3. Ciaonanzai: It is a hamlet north of the Maogangwei. The hamlet earned its name (southern side of the bridge) by being located at the south of the suspension bridge of Ciaotouzai Port (upstream of Jiangjyun River).

District reorganization after World War II combined the hamlets of Maogangwei, Wayaozai, and Ciaonanzai into a single village of Maogang Village.
