Houjie Village was originally known as Houjiezai. This settlement was formed along the boulevards on the northern side of the Xiaying District street, and was thus nicknamed Houjiezai (settlement behind the streets). Most settlers were members of the the Cai Clan. Mr. Lin Mu-ji, a folk art collector, also lives here. His collection includes many Taiwanese folk artworks that were scattered around the grounds of his house. This area was designated as the Houjie Village during the district reorganization that took place after World War II.
